What we do

We offer psychotherapy to adults with complex difficulties and traumatic experiences. You would often have been seen by multiple services but have either not engaged or found other treatments ineffective and find yourself returning to your GP, often reporting that you are repeating the same patterns. You would have usually experienced abuse, disorganised, chaotic and neglected early lives and require the consistency and reliability of the clinical setting and specialist treatment in order to manage their day-to-day living and therefore reduce reliance on a multitude of different services.

In Hemel Hempstead, our clinician is also available to GPs at Parkwood Drive surgery for consultations about patients and potential referrals. We can offer joint assessments with GPs if this is helpful. We offer group psychotherapy as well as individual psychotherapy at Cheshunt and Hemel Hempstead. In Watford we currently offer sessions both face to face at the Tavistock Centre and Colne House as well as on-line to meet the needs of those unable to access the service in person such as patients with physical disabilities.

What to expect

Once you are referred to the service you will receive an invitation to attend an initial consultation which we currently offer both in person and on-line depending on your needs. On arrival at in person appointments you will be met by your clinician and escorted to a private room where you are invited to speak in a confidential setting. Typically first appointments may last longer than the usual 50 minute sessions to think carefully together about what you need and whether we can offer a helpful intervention. If not, we can help signpost you elsewhere and support your engagement if needed.

We provide assessment consultations, brief psychotherapy and specialist psychotherapy. Specialist psychotherapy may involve regular appointments held at the same time and place with the same clinician in order to provide stability and mitigate risk.
