Response sent

It is important for your understanding of our responses below, that you are aware that the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust is a specialist mental health Trust, and not a hospital.  We provide outpatient, and mainly psychological, services and we do not provide acute nor inpatient services.

Seclusion and restraint is only practiced at the Trust’s SEMH day school for pupils aged 5-14 years. (Social, Emotional & Mental Health School).  The Trust does not have any detention facilities.

Please note that the both responses to your questions, as below, relate solely to our independent SEMT school, Gloucester House.

  1. A copy of any current policies, guidelines or procedures that refer to debriefing/review following restrictive interventions within your services. This may be contained within broader policies regarding the prevention and management of violent behaviour or other related documents.

Please find attached a copy of our Care and Control Policy.  A revised policy is being drafted, but please take the current policy as still valid and in force.

Care and Control Policy and Procedure

  1. Any training materials or guidance provided to staff on conducting debriefing/post-incident review sessions aimed at either staff or patients.

We use a third party supplier to inform our training/basis for debriefs and they provide behaviour support training, which is used following restraint/seclusion.  Their materials are copyrighted and we do not own this data, we are therefore unable to supply this to you.  Details of the supplier’s support packages may be reached via the following link:  Home – Team Teach
