We help people with

What we do

We provide talking therapies, also known as psychological therapies, for autistic children, young adults and their families and for those with developmental learning disabilities. The therapies service is for children, young people and adults up to the age of 25.

What to expect

This service includes psychodynamic psychotherapy, family therapy, group work and a limited number of brief interventions (e.g., cognitive behavioural approaches, solution focused approaches, etc). Approaches are adapted to meet your unique needs and your family. Therapy is offered at the Tavistock Centre.

We begin with an assessment to explore the reasons for referral further and how we may be able to help. As part of the assessment, we may meet with the professional network and discuss how best the network might work together to support your. Any care plan is agreed with your and your family as appropriate.

We also offer consultation and professional development support to our colleagues in education/training, community Child and Adolescent Mental Health services, local authorities, GP surgeries and the voluntary sector.

How to access this service

Referrals are accepted from CAMHS clinicians and are for people who already have a diagnosis of either autism or learning disability or both, from certain North Central London boroughs with whom we have commissioning arrangements. We do not currently accept self-referrals or referrals directly from families.
