Chidinma Uwakaneme

Appointed December 2024 – first term
Experienced social work manager and practice development educator, fostering expertise, passionate about safeguarding children, young people, adults and supporting families.
I am a highly experienced social work manager (PhD level) with a background in supporting vulnerable children, young people, families, and adults. I currently manage social workers in a local authority’s children’s social care sector and contribute to their professional development. I also serve as a social work practice development educator. Previously, I was a parent governor at my child’s school and a member of a fostering panel, demonstrating my commitment to governance and community involvement.
With many years of experience, I have gained a deep understanding of the strategies needed to make meaningful differences in people’s lives. I am passionate about multi-agency collaboration and recognise the importance of staff wellbeing. I believe that the way staff are treated directly impacts their practice, and I am committed to fostering supportive environments that prioritise compassion, inclusiveness, and respect.
My experience liaising with family and systemic therapists have given me valuable insight into best practices for supporting vulnerable groups. I have honed my strategic thinking, leadership, and ability to critically analyse performance and hold poor practice to account. I also value research and innovation, using evidence-based approaches to provide vulnerable groups with the best opportunities.
As an experienced manager, I am committed to continuous improvement and confident in challenging complacency. I believe my skills in relationship-building, communication, and negotiation will enable me to make a positive contribution as a public governor.
