In the piece titled How to talk to your toddler so they actually listen, according to the experts, Laverne provides helpful advice for speaking to toddlers when they say ‘no,’ during a tantrum and when parents are leaving them.

“You have to be a bit of an actor [as a parent] – nobody tells you when you have children about all the different roles that you’re going to have to inhabit. One minute, you’re being the clown – one minute, you’re being the investigator” says Laverne in the article.

Laverne explains that tone of voice is important when we speak to children and helps prepare them for the “rest of their educational life”, influencing them as they grow up.
