Tim Kent’s outstanding professional leadership recognised by BPC
Congratulations to Tim Kent, lead clinician for our adult services, who has been honoured with an award for outstanding professional leadership by the British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC), the professional association for the psychoanalytic profession.
This well-deserved recognition is a testament to Tim living our values and to the impact he has made across the Tavistock and Portman.

Michael Holland, CEO of the Tavistock and Portman, says: “Tim’s dedication to improving patient care, empowering colleagues, driving innovation and to the psychoanalytic profession is an example to us all. We are proud to have him at the Tavistock.”
Commenting on the award, Tim said:
“It is quite a shock but very nice to experience. I don’t even feel very grown up yet but I try. Aged 19 as a boy going to North East London Polytechnic I had a dream of one day coming to work at the Tavistock, I didn’t know much about it but I knew there was a lot more to learn about the mind and relationships…..
Now, after 30+ years in public service, four children, two grandchildren, a whole lot of music (my own therapy) and nearly 20 year at the Tavistock (Child and Adult roles) I hope that my patience and deep interest in the human condition combined with stamina and a strong social conscience has some value.
The state needs us to look after it as it has tried to look after us. There is huge value to NHS psychotherapy work as a crucible of hope for people in distress, and public services are worth caring about and investing in.”
