Tavistock and Portman wins public sector website of the year

The Tavistock and Portman has won the award for ‘public sector / not for profit / charity website of the year’ at the UK Digital Excellence Awards.

The UK Digital Excellence Awards recognise and reward outstanding digital websites, marketing campaigns, software and tools and digital agencies and teams who are delivering results and profitability.

The jury of the award said the Tavistock and Portman had “a truly brilliant website”, and how “it was great to see the amount of positive feedback from its users.

“This was a successful project, delivering exactly what the client wanted and the use of Mouseflow demonstrated a creative and impressive problem-solving attitude.”

We used Mouseflow, a feedback and statistics tool, to gather feedback from users of the website. Out of users surveyed, 75% of patients or members of the public and 100% of health professionals rated the ease of finding information on the website 4 or 5 out of 5.

Feedback from users has also been positive, and included;

  • “Really clear and well structured”
  • “the site looks great”
  • “I just had a look at the new website. It looks great!  Thank you so much!! So much easier to use and easier to look at.”

We worked with digital design agency DIAS, to help revamp our website and launch the new, current version in November 2023. To help keep the project in budget and on time, we aimed to not re-invent the wheel by working closely with clinical teams, users and learning from others including research and guidance from NHS Digital, GDS and charities such as Scope.

Steve Curati, Director and Co-founder of DIAS said: “The Tavistock and Portman are such a great, collaborative team and together we’ve worked really hard to make sure the website not only functions well for everybody, but looks good too. We’re delighted everyone’s hard work has been recognised.”

We also held participation sessions with local students to provide feedback on our website and help guide our design and implementation.

We have also put accessibility at the heart of our new website, with the Silktide NHS accessibility index ranking our website as the 24th most accessible website out of all NHS websites, and 11th most accessible out of all NHS Trusts. This was an improvement on the score of our previous website which was ranked 190th.

We aim to continuing building on the success of the website, and engage with patients and users to further improve its accessibility, functionality and the ease of information it provides for everyone.
