Tavistock and Portman to merge with North London NHS FT

The Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust is one step closer to merger with North London NHS Foundation Trust following approval from both boards and councils of governors. This is an important step in securing the long‑term future of our services.

What happens next?

We expect final approval by NHS England and the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Wes Streeting, to be completed in the coming weeks and for the merger to take place on Wednesday 1 April 2026.

Governance and accountability for our services will remain with the Tavistock and Portman’s Board and governance structures until the merger is formally approved by the Secretary of State.

What does this mean for me as a service user?

You do not need to do anything. Your care will continue as normal.

Here’s what you can expect:

  • Your service is not changing
  • You will continue to see the same clinician, in the same place
  • How you contact your clinician or service (phone, email, etc.) will stay the same.
  • You may notice a change with our name and logo (North London NHS Foundation Trust) on letters, texts, or other communications

The purpose of the merger is to protect and strengthen our services, not to change the support you receive.

If you have any questions please talk to your clinician in the first instance.  If you have any questions and do not have a lead clinician or would like further clarity, please contact PALS on pals@tavi-port.nhs.uk

FDAC service move

One of our services, the Family Drug and Alcohol Court (FDAC), will be moving to a new location around the same time as the merger. This move was already planned and is not a result of the merger. If you use FDAC, we will contact you directly with full details about the new location and what to expect. All other services will continue as usual.
