Tavistock and Portman student receives Royal College of Nursing Foundation award
A student studying on our Advanced practice and research: social work and social care professional doctorate course has been recognised in the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) Foundation Impact Awards.
Stephanie Lindsay, who is also a member of our Practice Research in Child Welfare (PRiCe) research lab was awarded the Olufunke Adeyeye Professional Development Award for outstanding achievement by a nurse from the Global Majority.
The annual awards ceremony recognise excellence in nursing and midwifery and honour the passion, resilience and dedication that define these professions. They are a celebration of the outstanding work of nurses, midwives and healthcare support workers that takes place every day across the UK.
Stephanie, a Clinical Nurse Specialist for children in care at St George’s University Hospital, received a RCN Foundation Olufunke Adeyeye Education Grant to support her professional doctorate programme on our Advanced practice and research in social work and social care course.
On studying for her doctorate, Stephanie said;
One of the great things about studying for my doctorate is that it gives me time to look at research, talk about it in my professional practice and improve the care I provide to families
The grant was pivotal in advancing Stephanie’s career and research efforts. The funding enabled her to launch a research project focusing on the experiences of foster carers caring for young children with developmental delays – an area overlooked in existing studies.
Discussing her research project with foster carers and children in care, Stephanie said;
I want to give voice to the foster carers, and to young children in care, by sharing the experiences about their lives because we don’t know much about them in research
The research has enhanced her understanding of children’s nursing, social care, and child welfare in clinical practice and will also contribute to an evidence base for nurse-led support to foster carers and care-experienced children.
Our education and training courses are carefully developed and supported by our faculty of expert NHS clinician-tutors. This means that the education you receive is relevant and up-to-date – those that treat our patients, teach our students.
Our validated courses are awarded by the University of Essex, ranked in the global top 100 of the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings, which ranks more than 1,400 universities around the world.
Our PRiCe research lab focuses on practice research at the interface between child and adolescent mental health and child welfare. It involves communities from our Child, community and educational psychology and Advanced practice and research: social work and social care courses, as well as clinical and academic collaborators, and external organisations.
