Art exhibit: John Roper – ‘And the Coronation will be Televised’
Tavistock Centre
…and the television has been photographed up close to the screen and from an oblique angle. These reassembled images are presented in the slow medium of oil painting in the tradition of the Royal Collection. What has emerged are images where perspectives are altered, hierarchies inverted, and the margins amplified, with the possibility of peering into the heart of the nation.
In the 1980s, John Roper completed a degree in Fine Art at Ravensbourne and an MA at Goldsmiths. He has exhibited at the Mall Galleries, Riverside Studios, and City Racing. He then worked as a carpenter for 30 years, returning in 2023 to his practice of making paintings in relation to photography.
