Accessibility statement

This accessibility statement applies to the Tavistock and Portman website at tavistockandportman.nhs.uk

This website is run by the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts
  • zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
  • navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
  • navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)

We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

Technical information about this website’s accessibility

The Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust is committed to making its websites accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

Compliance status

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

  1. Some PDF documents contain images with no alt text or descriptive text. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.1.1 (Non-text content)
  2. Some PDF documents have elements that are not correctly tagged. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.3.1 (Info and relationships)
  3. Some PDF content is not presented in a meaningful order both visually and semantically. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.3.2 (Meaningful sequence)
  4. Some PDF content does not have adequate contrast ratio between text and their backgrounds. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.4.3 (Contrast)
  5. Some PDF documents contain images of text. This fails WCAG success criterion 1.4.5 (Images of text)
  6. Some PDF documents do not contain document titles. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 2.4.2 (Page titled)

Plan to address these issues

We aim to remove and update where we can all PDF and Word documents from the site as and when they are reviewed following NHS Digital best practice.

    Disproportionate burden and mitigation

Some of our older FOI responses are published as PDF documents which are not fully accessible. These files form an archive of Freedom of Information (FOI) requests, which we consider would be a disproportionate burden to fix immediately due to resource limitations, when compared to the low readership of the files.

All new FOI responses are now published as HTML files and will therefore meet accessibility standards. The older PDF documents will be removed from the Trust’s website in line with the Trust’s data retention policy, with the intention of being fully compliant by the end of 2025/26. We will make another assessment of this accessibility statement within 12 months following the publication of this statement.

If you need information on this website in a different format, we are able  to provide accessible formats on an ad-hoc basis when we receive a request via the contact information below.

Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services.

    Feedback and contact information

If you need information on this website in a different format like accessible PDF, large print, easy read, audio recording or braille email communications@tavi-port.nhs.uk
