Michael Holland

Following a highly competitive recruitment process, we are pleased to announce that Dr Michael Holland has been appointed Chief Executive of the Trust.

Dr Holland will be joining us from South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, where he is currently the Medical Director, in addition to his role as liaison psychiatrist at Guy’s Hospital.

Trust Chair John Lawlor said:

“We are delighted to welcome Michael to the Trust. I’m confident that we’ve made an exceptional appointment, and that Michael will lead us forward to secure a bright future for the Trust’s clinical and educational services, and to increase our influence across the North Central London system and beyond. I would also like to put on record my immense appreciation and thanks for everything that Paul Jenkins has done for the Trust in his eight years as Chief Executive.”

Dr Michael Holland said:

“I am excited to be taking the helm of the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust. The Trust has an illustrious history of service innovation, life-changing patient care and excellence in education and training. I look forward to working with staff, patients, carers and students to demonstrate the importance of what we can deliver for the wider health and care system, both locally in North Central London and beyond.”

Our current Chief Executive Paul Jenkins will be retiring at the end of September and Chief Clinical Operating Officer, Dr Sally Hodges, has agreed to be our Acting Chief Executive until Dr Michael Holland joins the Trust mid-November.

In addition to his roles at South London and Maudsley and Guy’s and St Thomas’s, Dr Holland is a visiting senior fellow on the subject of quality management in healthcare at the London School of Economics. He was a fellow at the NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement. He has also worked as an improvement advisor to the improvement programmes delivered in NHS South West and NHS South. As Chair of the Medical Directors of the Cavendish Square Group and regional Clinical Director for London, he brings well-established relationships in London and the experience of system work, such as the 136-pathway work he led across London.
