Response sent

When reading our response below, it might be helpful for you to understand that the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust is a small specialist mental health Trust, and not a hospital. We provide outpatient, and mainly psychological, services. We do not provide acute services, nor inpatient patient services, and do not have an A&E department.

We can neither confirm nor deny whether information you have requested is held by the Trust in its entirety, though we can confirm that the Trust holds the overall spend on language services.

  • We cannot provide the breakdown of bookings by language/s requested, because bookings for interpreting and translating are not managed nor recorded centrally, and Team Managers manage their own requirements locally and authorise their own invoices for payment.
  • We do not hold our translation and interpreting data and costs in a way that enables us to electronically report on the different languages, types of language services, booking volumes nor price per booking type. This is because the Trust has a single accounting code under which all types of interpreting and translating services are recorded, ie they are all coded and reported alike under a single expenditure type.
  • Typical invoicing received from suppliers does not contain the level of detail which would be required to analyse spend by language requested nor type nor duration of booking/service.

The Trust confirms that its total spend on interpreting and translation services for the period 1st January to 31st December 2024 was £78,128.49, excluding VAT.
