Referrals of Young People in Homeless or Supported Accomm (2020–25)

Reference: 25-26303

Date response sent: 16/10/2025

Details of enquiry

Specifically, I am requesting anonymised data regarding service users who meet the following criteria:

  1. Age range: 18 to 24 years.
  2. Accommodation status: Those identified as living in homeless supported accommodation targeted at 16–24 year olds, such as (but not limited to):
  • YMCA supported housing
  • Depaul supported housing
  • Foyer projects
  • Similar supported accommodation schemes for homeless young people.
  1. Time period: From 1 January 2020 to the most recent available data.

For clarity, when searching your records, relevant terms might include “homeless”, “supported housing”, “supported accommodation”, “foyer”, “YMCA”, “Depaul”, or similar categories your Trust may use to classify accommodation status.

  1. I would be grateful if the information could include the following, presented in aggregate/anonymised form:

a. The number of individuals aged 18–24 each year since 2020 who were identified as living in homeless supported accommodation (as defined above).

b. If available, a breakdown by year (2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025 to date).

Due to the way in which we record and hold our homelessness data, we can only electronically extract homeless data for the year in which a homelessness code was noted on the patient’s file, and we cannot report on homelessness status accumulatively, ie where individuals remained homeless in subsequent years.

We have reported below on the annual numbers of Young People attending our (Outpatient) clinics for whom records were created to note they were homeless or living in homeless supported accommodation, coded in line with the NHS Data Model and Dictionary Accommodation NHS Data Model & Dictionary HM Codes 00-07

By way of context, you might be interested to note that the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust is a small specialist NHS mental health trust with a focus on training and education, as well as providing a range of mental health, outpatient, and mainly psychological, services via talking therapies.  We do not provide acute services, nor inpatient patient services, nor detention facilities, and do not have an A&E department
