Last week we advised you, in our response `………….’ that within the time constraints of FOIA resources we could not split out which GIDS patients were referred to Endocrinology clinics for assessment of suitability for administration of puberty blockers and for cross sex hormones respectively.  The Trust confirms that this is still the case.

There were two NHS Endocrinology clinics to which GIDS patients were referred, irrespective of whether a particular hormone treatment was proposed,  their contact details, for FOI purposes,  are as follows:

  • the Endocrinology team at UCLH London:

Email address:  uclh.foi@nhs.net.

Or Postal Address:  Freedom of Information Office, Digital Healthcare Directorate, 2nd Floor A, Maple House, 149 Tottenham Court Road, London, W1T 7NF

  • the Endocrinology team at Leeds General Infirmary

Email address:  leedsth-tr.informationgovernance@nhs.net.

Or through their website:  Make a request – Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust

Or Postal Address: Freedom of Information Office, Trust Headquarters, St James’s University Hospital, Beckett Street, Leeds LS9 7TF

The choice of clinic was generally according to geographic location and any other patient preferences.

If assessed to be appropriate for the patient, the endocrinologist would write to the patient’s GP recommending that they prescribe hormone therapy for the patient, but the Trust did not routinely receive information that patients received these prescriptions, nor whether they were taking them.

We do not hold records of those patients who were privately prescribed puberty blockers, or who might have received them from different agencies within the NHS or privately.
