Policies and procedures

Policies set the boundaries within which we operate. They also reflect the philosophy of our organisation.

They include:

  • a commitment to standards set by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE)
  • references to other guidelines
  • roles of individual post holders

Procedures, which all staff are required to follow, outline the series of steps that we use to accomplish specific tasks.

Agreed policies and procedures provide a framework in which decisions can be made. They help us to standardise clinical practice, test and improve our services, and achieve greater understanding and co-operation among our staff.

We consult staff when we develop policies and procedures, and update these regularly.
