Essex doctorates

The following guidance and resource pages are for Professional Doctorate students on University of Essex validated courses, their supervisors as well as course teams.


We currently support a community of over 300 students across a range of Professional Doctorate programmes at the Tavistock. The Essex validated Doctoral programmes currently include Professional Doctorates in Child, Community and Educational Psychology (M4), Child and Educational Psychology (M5), Consulting and Leading in Organisations (D10D), Systemic Psychotherapy (M10)Social Work and Emotional Wellbeing (D55), Psychoanalytic Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy (M80/M80N) and Advanced Practice and Research (Intergrated Professional Doctorates (IPD). Further details regarding the doctoral programmes including details of the taught elements can be found on the course Moodle pages and in the course handbook.

The guidance below offers information regarding the research phase of the doctoral programme. This includes information on information regarding thesis submissions and viva examinations, monitoring student progress (Supervisory Panels) and intermissions.
