Trust welcomes three new Governors

The membership have elected three new Governors to the Council of Governors. Talia Barry and Ffyona Dawber have been elected as Governors to represent Camden, and Katherine Knight has been elected to the role of the Trust’s first ever student Governor.

Kathy Elliott, Lead Governor, said:

“I’m delighted to welcome Talia, Ffyona and Katherine to the Council. All three of these inspiring women have a wealth of experience in healthcare, and will undoubtedly play a vital role in representing the membership and holding the Board to account. It’s very important that the student voice is heard at the Council, and I’m looking forward to working with Katharine to strengthen links between the Council and the student body at the Trust.”

Talia Barry biography

Talia Barry is a practising emergency medicine consultant at North Middlesex Hospital. She lives in Dartmouth Park with her husband and 4 children and enjoys swimming in the ponds and running, when she is not found in the depths of the emergency department. She has lived in London since she first jumped on train to visit for the weekend at the age of 18 and never left. She qualified as a consultant in 2018 and since then has gone on to join UCL Medical School as a lecturer in Ethics and Law and module lead for Professionalism and Patient Safety. Her most recent achievement was to help re-introduce Schwartz rounds to the medical school which proved very popular with students. In her spare time her favourite resting place is Northern Spain and she is learning Spanish albeit in a very slow one word a day fashion.

Ffyona Dawber biography

With a career in healthcare spanning over three decades, Ffyona trained initially as a nurse in the NHS. A passion for science and clinical development brought her into research and communications. As founder and CEO of a global medical communications agency, she prides herself on driving communications that are clear and compelling for all audiences and she is committed to sharing her experience in her role with the Tavistock and Portman.

Katharine Knight biography

Katharine Knight grew up in North London, attending the Henrietta Barnett School. She then took a degree in PPE from Balliol College, Oxford, and within the same year suffered a tragic bereavement and consequently became a patient within the Trauma Service at the Tavistock. This was a transforming and healing experience for her and enabled her to move on and obtain a medical degree from Oxford University, qualifying as a doctor, while bringing up her six children (now aged between twenty-one and eight). This early experience of the exceptional and sustaining work at the Tavi never left her, and she is now passionate about the value of psychoanalytic psychotherapy to help people from all backgrounds who are experiencing mental distress. Katharine’s professional and personal journey has led her to a commitment to equity, speaking up, and public service.
