Nurturing Parents: Mindfulness based well-being for parents

Course overview

The Nurturing Parents Programme (NP) has been developed by Eluned Gold. (Eluned has been teaching mindfulness for 20 years and previously worked at the Centre for Mindfulness Research and Practice). NP is an adaptation of a standard 8-week mindfulness course, (MBSR), and has been developed specifically for parents in difficult situations. It’s essential message is the need for parents to learn self-care in order to be able to care for their families.

This two-and-a-half-day training course aims to equip professionals who are already trained to deliver mindfulness courses to deliver this important new curriculum.

Over the two and a half day workshop participants will be introduced to the curriculum and the teaching materials of the NP programme, and will have an opportunity to experience teaching of the practices and exercises.

At the end of the training participants will receive a resources pack to enable them to deliver this course in their own settings.

At the end of the course participants will:

• Understand the importance of mindfulness for parents in contemporary society

• Be familiar with the NP programme

• Have experienced teaching some of the exercises and practices

The course will be delivered through experiential exercises, didactic sessions and collegial discussion. There will be opportunities to practice teaching in small collegial groups.

This workshop will be suitable for those trained to deliver mindfulness to general populations and who are familiar with working with parents and families.

Eluned Gold has been teaching and training others to teach mindfulness for 20 years. She was previously  Director of CPD Training at the leading Mindfulness Training Institute, Centre for Mindfulness Research and Practice, Bangor University, Eluned is a qualified Psychotherapist and prior to this post she worked with children and families for over a decade.

Eluned has developed this Nurturing Parents course over a number of years, in collaboration with local parents and family support professionals.

If you are not a trained mindfulness teacher, the course will not equip you to be a mindfulness teacher, but may be used to integrate mindfulness into existing professional skills.
