Health information exchange (HIE)
Healthcare records are joining up across North Central London to improve the services you receive. What does this mean for you?
To help your health and care professionals make quicker and safer decisions about your care, wherever they are treating you, healthcare records are joining up across North Central London. This will also help us to use technology that will improve and manage your care and wellbeing.
Sharing of clinical data has several potential benefits including both improving clinical care, and also reducing the number of times that you have to repeat your story.
We know what
some of the clinical data we record is very personal and sensitive. Therefore,
we have given a lot of thought to the type of data we should share through this
project. As a Trust we have decided
that for most patients, important current health and care information including
assessment and discharge letters, care and crisis plans, and future
appointments will be included in the project.
You have the right to opt out so that your information isn’t included in the joined-up records. Opting out may mean that care teams won’t have your full history and recent information. Decisions about your care may take longer, even in emergency situations. It is important that you think carefully about opting out, and understand what it will mean for you. Who is part of this project?
Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust is a part of the North Central London’s sustainability and transformation partnership (NCL STP) Health Information Exchange (HIE) Project. This project will be joining up the electronic health and care records of all adults and children in north central London. Health and care professionals have shared information on paper for many years – the NCL STP now plans to do this using digital technology.
Under GDPR regulations, information will be shared and accessed on a strictly need to know basis by health and care professionals across the five boroughs of Barnet, Camden, Enfield, Haringey and Islington for purposes of direct care. Data will be securely held, and any data transmitted will be encrypted to NHS standards.
