NHS urgent mental health helplines are for people of all ages.
You can call for:
- 24-hour advice and support - for you, your child, your parent or someone you care for
- help to speak to a mental health professional
- an assessment to help decide on the best course of care
In an emergency
If you don’t feel you can keep yourself safe right now, seek immediate help:
- go to any Accident & Emergency (A&E) department (Find your nearest A&E)
- call 999 and ask for an ambulance to take you to A&E
- ask someone else to call 999 for you or take you to A&E
If you need urgent support but don’t want to go to A&E, you can:
- call Samaritans on freephone 116 123 – they are always open and are there to listen
- contact your GP surgery and ask for an emergency appointment
- contact NHS 111
- contact your local crisis team (CRHT), if you’re under their care
- If you're under 19, you can also call 0800 1111 to talk to Childline. The number will not appear on your phone bill.

Crisis line for young people and their parents/carers
If you live in Barnet, Enfield, Haringey, Camden or Islington and are aged between 0 and 18 years old, or care for someone that is, you can now access a crisis line if you are in need of urgent mental health support or advice. Contact them on:
0800 151 0023
This line operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. If you are an existing patient you can also continue to contact your clinical team in the usual way.
Need help out of hours?
Generally you can contact our services Monday-Friday, between 9am-5pm. Although our main switchboard operates until 6pm, anything after that is considered ‘out of hours’.
We do not provide direct out of hours care for patients and/or carers, but our clinicians are happy to discuss and plan out of hours support with you should you wish to. If you feel this might be helpful, please do speak with your clinician at your next appointment.
If you need advice or help outside of our core opening hours and you haven’t identified a plan with your clinician, then there are a number of options available to you, depending on the help or advice you need.
Help is available from the following services:
- Your GP out of hours service
- NHS 111 - available 24 hours a day, seven days a week
- Your local Accident and Emergency (A&E) Department – 24 hours a day, seven days a week
- The Samaritans
GP out of hour’s service
GPs are contracted to provide 24/7 services. Every GP service operates differently, but outside of normal surgery hours you can phone your GP surgery number and usually you'll be directed to their out-of-hours service.
NHS 111 service
The non-emergency NHS 111 service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The service is there to provide medical advice and to guide you to the best local services that can provide the appropriate care. For more information on the NHS 111 service, please visit their website.
You should use the NHS 111 service if you urgently need medical help or advice, but it's not a life-threatening situation.
