Perinatal Competency Framework update, July 2017
19 July 2017
Earlier this year, the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust worked in partnership with Health Education England (HEE) to develop a "competency framework" for perinatal mental health care skills to support all professionals working with mothers and families, from preconception until 1 year postnatal.
E-learning for Health (eLfH) and HEE are now in the process of developing the Competency Framework into an online tool.
The online tool will allow professionals to access the competencies in the framework relevant to their role and inform them of which competencies they require in order to fulfil the responsibilities of their role.
We are currently in the process of gathering information from the National Perinatal Mental Health leads to scope what training is currently being offered to the workforce that meets the competencies in the framework.
This mapping will help to inform our understanding of where the gaps are nationally and what training is required to start to develop consistency.
The information we receive will be provided to HEE by Friday 8 September and will inform the next stages of linking the digital framework to national training available.
