London Perinatal Mental Health Network recognised at HSJ awards
7 November 2019
Congratulations to the London Perinatal Mental Health Network members for their recognition at last nights (November 6) Health Service Journal Awards.
The London Perinatal Mental Health Network was a finalist in the Acute or Specialist Service Redesign Initiative - London and the South category, and joined other nominees from across the health sector at an award ceremony hosted by actor James Nesbitt. Hertfordshire Partnership University Foundation Trust's Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service took out the top award for the work of their Home Treatment Team.
Prior to national investment in specialist Perinatal Mental Health Services, a small group of passionate clinicians, initiated by Lis Jones, our former Director of Nursing, had been working since 2013 with limited resources to develop the London Perinatal Mental Health Network.
In 2016, NHS England’s Five Year Forward View for Mental Health heralded the transformation of perinatal services and the Network led London’s Perinatal Mental Health Transformation Programme, overseen by London’s Mental Health Transformation Board.
Today, the Network has membership of over 350 professionals involved in caring for women and their families across the perinatal care pathway. Each network has a multidisciplinary membership including commissioners, midwives, obstetricians, health visitors, psychologists, psychotherapists, nurses, social workers, psychiatrists, third sector and voluntary organisations, and experts with lived experience
Our own Jo Maitland, Perinatal Mental Health Training and Service Development Lead and London Perinatal Mental Health Network Coordinator, has been instrumental in the development of the network, and the Trust congratulates Jo and all the network members on their well-deserved recognition.
Jo says: “Congratulations to category winner Hertfordshire Partnership Foundation Trust and all the nominees. Although we didn't win, it was an absolute honour to be nominated alongside other innovative projects from across London and the South East, and well deserved recognition for our network members.
"As a result of the perinatal mental health service redesign, with support from the NHS England 5 year forward view, today women and their families are able to access specialist perinatal mental health care in every London borough.”
