Commissioning for quality and innovation (CQUIN)

The Commissioning for Quality and Innovation (CQUIN) payment framework was introduced in 2009 and makes some of our income conditional on demonstrating improvements in quality and innovation in specified areas of care.

CQUIN targets are set externally by the Clinical Commissioning Groups and by our commissioners. They are performance managed against 13 transformational indicators to ensure achievement and development.

The framework helps make quality part of the commissioner-provider discussion everywhere and has been designed based on feedback from partners in the NHS.

CQUIN targets mean we can look at the quality of our services and ensure that quality continues to improve.
